Juliayn Coleman Bookbinding and Conservation

July 28, 2009

I've been really busy this summer! A lot of interesting repair and portfolio jobs have come my way, and I'll be refashioning this site to show some of the recent work I've been up to. I've also established a blog at http://bookisland.wordpress.com. Lots of juicy photos are already there.

In the meanwhile, the Printer's Ball is this Friday, from 5-11 pm at the Columbia College Center for Book and Paper Arts at 1104 S. Wabash in Chicago. Hope to see you there!

The Renegade Craft Fair is this weekend, Sept. 13-14. The Evanston Print and Paper Shop has prepared a fabulous booth and has graciously offered to offer some of my blank lined notebooks for sale. They will also be displaying models for all the workshops they will be hosting through the end of the year. The lovely ladies at EPPS have also produced a booklet- schedule of all their upcoming classes. The fair is open from noon to 10 pm Saturday and Sunday and is in the middle of Division Street from Damen Avenue east to Hermitage.

My binding of The Coast of Chicago will be shown as part of ArtXposium 2008, an art event curated by Anni Holm. ArtXposium is a three- day event occurring mostly in West Chicago, Illinois, and features the work of more than 80 local, national, and international artists. For more information, directions, and a schedule of events visit www.artxposium.org.

A two- volume set of books I made was included in the recently published 500 Handmade Books. Juried by publisher and teacher Steve Miller, the book features the work of hundreds of bookbinders and artists of many media. I am thrilled to be a part of it.

Welcome to the new site! Thanks for visiting; I welcome any comments you might have.

I am very excited to have been invited to teach some workshops in bookbinding at the new-ish Evanston Print and Paper Shop. It is a great little shop for letterpress and bookbinding tucked away in an adorable space in Evanston. Please check them out: The Evanston Print & Paper Shop

Have a great summer!
